About Us

In 2009 artist and professor Carrie Patterson discovered public school students in her community weren’t receiving enough art instruction to grow healthy, creative minds. She found that most students were only receiving 45 minutes of art education a week. There was a tremendous need for supplemental art education, and she wanted to do something about it. So, she rolled up her garage door and opened The Yellow Door art studio in Leonardtown, Maryland where she offered art classes for kids on Friday afternoons. It wasn't long before word spread and soon dozens of kids of all ages wanted to let their art flag fly with Carrie on Fridays. For nine years, the studio continued to teach more and more kids, expanded to a larger space, and offered classes throughout the week, hosting student teachers and professional artists. Everyone was welcome. And it was SO. MUCH. FUN.

With the success of The Yellow Door studio, Carrie knew she could reach even more kids if she added a new element to her teaching. In 2018 The Yellow Line Draw/Paint/Sculpt product line first became available as a subscription box and was provided to select school programs. These products enabled her to bring quality arts education to even more kids by making imaginative, creative, and expressive lessons available to a wider audience. Kids all over southern Maryland got to take a walk on the Yellow Line and it was SO. MUCH. FUN.

Today, Carrie’s original, creative projects are reimagined and packaged as a retail product available at the Flagship Yellow Line Studio, on-line, and soon, at specialty retailers nationwide! True to her dedication  to helping kids become the best artists they can be, every Yellow Line product follows the guideposts for arts education and artist development created by the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards, a nationally recognized organization. Each project guides young artists towards a greater understanding of the artistic process and ultimately, how they interpret the world around them. Carrie is so excited to share these art projects with children everywhere.

Take a walk on the The Yellow Line and let your art flag fly!

We hope every kid hops on board The Yellow Line to take an art journey they won't forget!
